This programme is designed for primary school learners from grade 4-6. It provides them with an opportunity to put their skills against one another by applying strategies to help them spell words both familiar and unfamiliar. We will be adding scramble and crosswords puzzles as an exciting factor to the programme.

MFDF Read-A-Thon is an exciting literacy improvement activity dedicated to contributing to the development of life-long literacy skills by enhancing and promoting learner reading in primary schools. The Read-A-Thon is not only limited to reading but also encompasses book discussions and book reviews. We encourage the learners to write their own stories and we invite local authors to share their work.
MFDF aims to create a culture of reading in township schools. Pupils experience reading as a pleasure and not as an obligation.
This initiative will be achieved by supplying short story books to participating schools in preparing for an annual competition final.
This will encourage children to devote themselves in literature through reading aloud from different books and amongst their peers. This will widen their spectrum and horizons in their studies and will also stimulate their mental abilities.

In 2017 MFDF is introducing Debating; this provides learners with a platform to express themselves verbally in front of an audience by sharing their knowledge and express their views on a particular topic. Debating also develops their critical listening skills and builds their confidence. Debate also allows students to become more skilled in speaking, researching, reading, writing, reasoning and communication. We will add motivational symposiums around certain topics which they will get an opportunity to present to their peers. These will create awareness to children and motivate conversations around issues.
